Our technical teams are at the heart of who we are

Our technical teams are crucial to our success as a software company. Our products grow from employees' ideas and we work together to produce some amazing cutting-edge technology. Whether you are at a more senior level or just starting out in your career, we offer the chance to get involved in genuinely exciting projects, as well as put forward your own suggestions for new ideas and features. While we primarily work with Python and C#, we consider candidates from a variety of language backgrounds and are always happy to hear from people willing to learn new tools.

We also encourage diversity within our teams, as we believe that this is vital for any forward-facing company. In the UK, we support schemes such as Code First: Girls and are signatory of the Tech Talent Charter.

Training and development

We invest in our staff and understand that whatever stage you're at in your career, training is a crucial part of your development. Whether it's formally learning a new language or framework, or learning from your colleagues in-house, we make training available on a regular basis. Our regular hackathons also allow our people to put new skills into practice. In addition to these options, the Egress Academy includes mentorship, executive talks and management training.

What are the opportunities for progression?

Egress provides team members at the start of their careers with the chance to work on multiple technologies, so you can figure out what you enjoy doing the most. For those at a more senior level, there's the opportunity to mentor new team members, manage teams, and take ownership of product planning and design phases. Promotions aren't awarded based on age or length of time with the company: your skills and contributions are what count.

A day in the life of a Software Developer

“You can't start your day without any coffee and thankfully all the Egress offices come equipped with decent coffee machines! After coffee usually comes the daily stand-up and then we get down to coding - both writing new code, and checking and debugging existing code. Once the day is done there is usually the chance to go for a drink with some of the other developers.”

A day in the life of a Quality Assurance Engineer

“I started as a Junior QA Engineer and shortly after achieved my ISTQB certification. I am now a senior member of the team and the test lead for Egress Secure Workspace. Like with any business, we have deadlines to meet and sometimes this requires going the extra mile to ensure we deliver on time. If the situation arises, everyone across different roles and teams rallies together to help. It is extremely rewarding to be part of the Egress Team.

My day usually starts with a stand-up meeting to discuss the work we've completed, what we still have to do, and any anticipated impediments. I will then take care of ongoing tasks or raised issues before focusing on testing open tickets in our current sprint. This will then lead me into the afternoon, when I often have meetings to discuss and refine new features of our product roadmap with other members of the team.”
