BOSTON, Mass.— September 24th, 2020 - TAG Cyber, which provides expert cyber security analysis and guidance for cyber security organisations, introduced today the Human Layer Security Maturity Model and risk assessment tool in partnership with Egress, the leading provider of human layer email security and a TAG Cyber 2020 Distinguished Vendor. The Model employs a questionnaire that helps organisations self-assess their effectiveness in reducing cyber security risks associated with inadvertent human error or malicious actions by employees.
Human-activated data breaches are one of the top risks that organisations face today, especially as a disseminated global workforce now relies more heavily on email to communicate with colleagues and outside sources. Data from the 2020 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report shows that email is a top security risk for organisations. Phishing remains the number one attack method, and incidents caused by emails inadvertently sent to the wrong recipient have seen one of the steepest increases in frequency in the past five years.
The human layer within the Human Layer Security Maturity Model is comprised of personal decision-making and people-oriented interactions that can increase or decrease cyber risk. It includes risks that can be introduced as a result of environmental conditions, such as remote work or added stress.
“Human layer security is a cyber defense strategy that will prevail in organisations for as long as people are in the workforce,” said Dr. Edward Amoroso, CEO of TAG Cyber. “We have developed the Human Layer Security Maturity Model to identify, diagnose, and educate businesses on human-activated cybersecurity risks. Together with Egress, we are providing this tool free of cost to organisations to assess their own threat landscape.”
Under the partnership between TAG Cyber and Egress, the companies are delivering a free human layer assessment tool based on the Security Maturity Model to organisations of all sizes and industries. Egress’ expertise in assessing corporate security risks comes from its human layer security solutions that use contextual machine learning to detect abnormal behaviour and thwart breaches before they happen.
