Egress Software Technologies today announced that Epiphany Healthcare is using the Egress platform to secure its highly regulated and sensitive patient data.
Epiphany Healthcare is a leader in ECG Management, enabling more than 950 hospitals and healthcare providers to simplify clinical workflow and securely access ECG data and diagnostic test results from anywhere. Because Epiphany handles significant amounts of HIPAA regulated information, they needed a solution to securely transfer regulated healthcare data between Epiphany, healthcare providers, partners and internal users.
“We needed a solution that could encrypt email and sensitive information, that would also be easy for our staff to use and wouldn’t require us to change our existing email system,” said Chad McQuarrie, system administrator, Epiphany Healthcare. “With Egress, our communications are secure and compliant. This ensures our client’s data is secure, while providing an audit trail to demonstrate compliance with regulations like HIPPA.”
Following an extensive review of competitive products, Epiphany selected Egress for its ability to solve multiple business challenges from a single platform, including:
- Email and file encryption: Egress Email and File Protection automatically encrypts all emails containing protected health information and other sensitive, regulated data. Egress provides total control over this information in real-time, enabling users to revoke access, audit actions and add message restrictions to prevent the accidental mishandling of sensitive data.
- Integration with existing email for ease of use: Egress seamlessly integrates with Epiphany’s existing email solutions, including G-Suite and Microsoft Office. This provides Epiphany employees with ‘one click’ encryption and decryption of all content directly from within their preferred email platform.
- Secure customer forms for receiving and sharing patient data: Using Egress Secure Web Form, Epiphany created a secure web-based form through which external users can securely and seamlessly submit ECG studies and sensitive patient scans and files – all in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Epiphany customers can now simply upload their patient data files and submit them in an encrypted format.
- HIPAA auditing and compliance: Using Egress, Epiphany can easily demonstrate compliance with regulations like HIPAA by providing a clear audit trail of how sensitive information is accessed, and secured.
“The nature of patient care and communicating with providers, hospitals and patients puts healthcare organisations at extreme risk of data breaches – especially through accidental disclosures, which made up 38 percent of healthcare data breaches last quarter alone,” said Egress Chief Revenue Officer and NA General Manager, Mark Bower. “Egress has a strong track record of helping organisations navigate complicated regulatory environments to secure their unstructured data. As we continue to expand our operations in North America, we’re excited to work with innovative clients like Epiphany Healthcare to showcase Egress’ unique user-centric approach to data security that prevents both accidental and malicious data breaches.”
