The company delivers starter packs to help business owners quickly protect their operations at an affordable price - all managed and supported by Jacobian Engineering’s expert staff. The company also offers HITRUST/HIPAA certification, SOC2, managed IT and security services, forensic investigation, risk assessment, and compliance management.

The business challenge

A leading Managed Service Provider (MSP), Jacobian Engineering provides products and services designed to keep customers’ businesses running smoothly at a cost that’s affordable. Jacobian Engineering first began working with Egress on behalf of their client, Ravenswood Healthcare Center in Palo Alto, when replacing an existing email security solution due to concerns over its encryption methods, as well as cost. As a healthcare organisation that handles HIPAA-regulated patient information, data security and ease of use were key priorities for Ravenswood.

The solution: The Egress platform

Following an extensive evaluation, Jacobian Engineering together with Ravenswood selected the Egress data security platform, specifically Egress Protect. Protect offers easy-to-use, flexible NIST FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography that provides the highest levels of security to support contemporary HIPAA audit requirements. In addition to encrypting message contents and attachments, it enables total control over shared information in real time, with the ability to revoke access, audit user actions and add message restrictions to prevent mishandling of sensitive data.

“We really like that with Egress, sensitive data remains on-premise and is encrypted at rest. It also provides a seamless decryption process, making it a very easy-to-use and convenient solution.”

Easy-to-use and convenient solution

Following the successful deployment at Ravenswood, Jacobian Engineering then deployed Egress for its own use.

“We really like that with Egress, sensitive data remains on-premise and is encrypted at rest. It also provides a seamless decryption process, making it a very easy-to-use and convenient solution,” commented Erik Jones, CEO of Jacobian Engineering. “Additionally, with Egress we were able to reduce costs by 25%!”

“Egress has a lot of great features that its competitors don’t have. We particularly like the single sign-on capabilities, and the ability to truly control who has access to sensitive emails”

Truly control access to sensitive emails

As a cybersecurity company, Jacobian Engineering performs audits, compliance validation, penetration testing, and forensic investigations for its customers. The resulting reports contain sensitive customer information, and therefore encrypting this information when sharing it is critical for Jacobian Engineering and its customers.

“Egress has a lot of great features that its competitors don’t have. We particularly like the single sign-on capabilities, and the ability to truly control who has access to sensitive emails,” commented Jones. “Additionally, Egress has great support and has been very responsive to our needs.”
