Egress opens new office in Sheffield

London - 24th April 2019

People-centric data security company, Egress, today celebrated the opening of its new office in the heart of Sheffield’s digital campus, part of its focus on supporting the region’s growing reputation as a technology and digital hub. The company, which currently has 70 staff based in Sheffield, aims to recruit a further 30 employees to roles at all levels of the organisation by the end of 2019.

Tony Pepper, CEO of Egress, commented: “Our new office underlines our commitment to developing a technology innovation hub in Sheffield, something that is very important to the senior team here at Egress. There is enormous potential in this region to create exciting and innovative technology opportunities that capitalise on the considerable talent that is coming out of the region’s universities and schools. We are determined to show that Sheffield has a huge role to play in national digital and data security innovation.”

The new Sheffield office is part of the company’s expansion drive, which has been fuelled by $40m Series C financing secured in December 2018. Pepper continues: “This office is a cornerstone of our strategic development plans and we will be recruiting new staff to join our existing team and continue to grow the company.”

Highlighting Sheffield’s digital powerhouse potential

To coincide with the opening of the new office, Egress executives Tony Pepper, Neil Larkins and John Goodyear will be hosting a roundtable discussion with local journalists, members of the Local Enterprise Partnership, Sheffield Council, and representatives of the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University in attendance.

The event will examine how the city is shedding its historical ‘steel city’ image and emerging as a potential digital powerhouse with strong commercial success stories and a burgeoning tech-focused community. It will also discuss what this means for businesses, the community and talent in the region.

Pepper continues: “As a committed member of Sheffield’s tech scene, we believe the region is strongly positioned to succeed as a hub for innovation. There are already around 19,000 digital jobs in the city, with potential for many more. We hope this open forum will highlight the opportunities that technology businesses such as Egress can bring to the area.”

A recent Tech Nation survey found that 70% of tech start-ups located in Sheffield think the tech sector has good growth potential. The city is home to networking initiatives Sheffield DigitalCode First Girls Group and Hack Sheffield, of which Egress is an active member.
