Launched in 2001, the ethos of Holmdene is to prepare its young people for independent living through a semi-independence programme based around their personal needs and underpinned by the ‘five outcomes’, which work towards young people engaging, staying safe and healthy, which in turn encourages them to learn, enjoy and achieve their full economic and personal potential. Holmdene’s philosophy is to build self-esteem, awareness, pride and aspiration through mentoring and inspiring young people to fulfil their ambitions, while working in partnership with other professionals.
Holmdene is able to respond quickly and effectively to the requests of Local Authorities, and able to offer specialised services for the varying needs and challenges faced by our client group.
Paul Johnson, Operations Director at Holmdene Housing, explains: “Holmdene Housing works closely with many local authorities, to provide crucial services to vulnerable young people. As such, we are required to hold and share confidential electronic information about our clients. It is consequently of the utmost importance that this is secured not only in our offices but when sent to external organisations.
In particular, Holmdene Housing sends and receives confidential emails with local authorities and needed an encryption solution that would help us to comply with data protection agreements. We deployed Egress Protect to meet this need.”

Founded in 2001, Holmdene Housing provides accommodation and support for young people aged 16 – 18, including those leaving foster care, new and expectant mothers, young offenders, and unaccompanied minors seeking asylum.
This involves not only providing housing for semi-independent living, but also carrying out one-to-one specialist support, emergency placements, education and training advice, and help preparing to move into independent accommodation. As a result, Holmdene Housing is required to share sensitive information with appropriate contacts within local authorities and other select organisations.
Mr Johnson continues: “We decided to use Egress Protect to help us maintain our reliable and high-quality service. A flexible and user-friendly solution, Egress Protect more than meets our requirement.”
Designed to provide a genuine ‘one-click’ email and file encryption solution, Egress Protect integrates seamlessly with a variety of email clients, including Microsoft Office. Real-time auditing and control, as well as date and time restrictions, and the ability to revoke access to secure packages, Egress Protect enables users to remain in control of the information they share.
Egress UK Sales Manager Kelly McCann comments: “Holmdene Housing’s decision to purchase Egress Protect reflects a growing trend amongst housing associations to secure the confidential information they share with third parties, particularly local authorities. As in the case of Holmdene Housing, this information is shared to provide crucial services to individuals at risk. By using Egress Protect to secure sensitive data, Holmdene Housing are not only demonstrating their excellent commitment to data protection but also to the maintaining an exceptional level of service delivery.”
