What do you get as a free user?

The benefits of being a free Egress user

At Egress we recognise that data security should be as easy as possible to use whether you are a paying or free subscriber of the service. By creating your free Egress ID, you’ll be able to access encrypted content via several of our products. For example, if a paying Egress subscriber shares a secure email or file with you, you can access the data and reply back without needing to pay for your own subscription.

In addition, as a free user you automatically receive 25 credits, which enable you to send encrypted messages to anyone (not just paying subscribers). Once the credits have been used up, you’ll be able to continue communicating with paying Egress subscribers completely free of charge.

How do I access an Egress secure email or file?

To access a secure email or secure file transfer, you will need to sign up for an Egress account to get your ID. It will not cost you anything to sign up for an account, but you must use the same email address that the file was sent to, otherwise you will not be able to access the encrypted content.

To open an email online please visit Alternatively, you can open the email using our desktop and mobile apps.

For more information on accessing secure content, take a read of our simple quick start guides:

How many secure emails can I send for free?

If you are a free user, you get 25 free credits to send 25 secure emails to anyone. However, if you are contacting someone that already has an Egress secure email subscription, you can send them as many Egress secure emails as you like, free of charge.

For example, if you are contacted by an Egress customer who has a secure email subscription with us, you can reply to them for free and you can also write your own secure emails to that person without paying for a license of your own.

If communicating with other non-paying users, you will need to pay for a subscription if you wish to continue using the service, once you have used up your 25 free credits. You can find out more information about this on our licensing page.

How can I use secure email in Outlook, Gmail or on my mobile phone?

To help make your Egress experience as simple and easy as possible, we also provide integrated apps for Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, iPhone and Android mobile devices. The apps are free to download and available to all Egress users (paying and free).

This means that even as a free user, you can still write your secure emails in Outlook on your laptop and you can still reply to secure emails on your mobile phone.

Once your mobile or desktop apps have been installed, sign in using your Egress ID as normal. Don’t forget you can only open messages that have been sent to the same email address as your Egress ID.

If you have downloaded the desktop app and you have a valid MS Office account, Egress will appear as a plugin in Outlook for you to use. To send a secure email, click the lock on the top left corner and choose your level of classification.

Gmail users can access our secure email service by adding our Egress app to their Chrome browser.
