About the role: Principal Software Engineer (Node.js)

Egress Software Technologies provides industry and government-certified encryption services that give you choice and control over how you securely share sensitive information. Whether sending information via email or large file transfer, or collaborating on confidential documents, the Egress portfolio of products offers flexibility over deployment and user federation, choice over how users send and receive information, and control over how recipients handle the data shared with them.

Our Prevent and Reporting team are involved in the development of lightning-fast microservices which form the back-end of three core products: RBP (risk based protection), SMA (Smart Auth) and Reporting. We work with Big Data sets to provide risk-assessments to users in real time and leverage this using Machine Learning algorithms. As a team we tick most of the buzz words going in tech right now so it's an exciting team to be a part of!

We’re happy to offer remote working with 2 days a month in the office once reopened.

Role details

As a Principal Engineer you'll play a key role across both the architecture and development, turning our roadmap into reality for one of our data security services. With your help we will:

Your knowledge, experience and skills should include:

  • Building software
    • Translating your solutions into code fluently
    • Ensures system meets business needs today and plans for the future
    • Continually evaluates cloud technologies for potential strategic fit to enhance Egress products
    • Communicating design overviews to executive and technical stakeholders
    • Instructing organisational stakeholders on potential threats in order to gain support for strategic changes
    • Solving complex problems independently
    • Works with Product Management to offer guidance on future developments

Our tools

  • Extensive experience in Experience with Node.js & Express
  • Experience with Microsoft's Azure or AWS Platform
  • Comfortable in the terminal and with command line development tools
  • Experience in working with Docker containers in Linux operating system
  • Experience within a continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) environment
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Vue.js or similar
  • Experience with Sass/CSS3 and Bootstrap framework
  • Experience with Webpack
  • Ability to build and improve a REST/JSON API client
  • Write high-performance, reusable code for UI components
  • Experience with testing frameworks (e.g. Jest, Mocha)
  • Solid web development principles and knowledge of front-end performance practices
  • First-hand experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Understanding of Git and version control
