Getting started
The ability to send large files securely is the cornerstone of what Egress Switch was designed to do. Built directly into the Switch client are multiple mechanisms designed to allow file transfers via a variety of means, from HTTP(s) / FTP(s) to Optical & Removable media, which all can be performed from within Microsoft Outlook without any special user interaction at all* (this is dependent on the policies configured). The below guide will walk you through the process of sending large files via Microsoft Outlook as well as through the Switch Package Creator.
Please note the following: -
As mentioned above, the ability to send a large file via Microsoft Outlook is a policy which is usually configured centrally. If the policy has been enabled for you, simply follow the steps below to see how easy it is to transfer files of any size!
To begin, open Microsoft Outlook and create a new email as you would normally and attach a file which you would consider large e.g. 10mb+

Next click 'Send' to send the email as normal and the following new window will be displayed if your policy allows you to upload large files via Outlook.

At this stage your attached files are being compressed and encrypted, ready to be securely uploaded. Once this process has completed, your recipient will be notified via email of where they can download the file and you will be notified that the upload has commenced by a pop-up alert in the Switch system tray.

You can monitor the progress of the upload at anytime by clicking the Switch tray icon.

To pause/resume or cancel your upload while it’s in progress, simply click the 1 transfer in progress link to be taken the My Packages.

If you are on a Free Switch account or if you do not have the ability to transfer large files via Outlook configured, you can still upload files of any size from the Switch Package Creator. To access the Switch Package Creator, simply select any files or folders you wish to upload by right-clicking the object and selecting 'Secure with Switch'.

The Switch Package Creator window will now open where you can specify the recipient(s) of the package, the subject as well as apply any tags for searching later.

When you have configured the package and are ready to begin the transfer, simply click the 'Create Package' button located on the upper-left. When you press this, a new window will appear which will give you various options on how to transfer data to the recipient(s).

The options available to you will depend on your Account type and Policy which you have in place. For this example, select the Upload to Egress Cloud option and then select Next. Once you do this the file will be compressed and encrypted and will begin uploading to the Egress Secure Cloud.

Depending on the size of the file being compressed and encrypted, this process can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes to complete. Once the process has finished, you will be presented with a summary screen which contains a link to the uploaded file. You will also have the option to Send a notification email to the recipient informing them of the download link.

When you are ready to notify your recipients click 'Finish' and an email will be automatically generated with the Recipients address, Subject of the email, and the email body which contains the link to the download as well as instructions on how to access the encrypted Switch file.

You will be notified that the upload has commenced by a pop-up alert in the Switch system tray.

You can monitor the progress of the upload at anytime by clicking the Switch tray icon.

To pause/resume or cancel your upload while it’s in progress, simply click the 1 transfer in progress link to be taken the My Packages.
