NHS City and Hackney frequently share confidential information with a wide range of community services in order to provide high quality health care. Having implemented secure FTP and traditional file encryption to share information securely, these technologies proved complex to operate and difficult to maintain. Egress Switch presented a new alternative to sharing information outside NHS boundaries that combined strong security and simple end user experience. Egress Switch allows sensitive information to be packaged using strong AES 256-bit encryption. This information can then be shared with named recipients in a variety of ways such as attached to an email, burned on a CD/DVD, copied to a USB stick or transferred through the web or FTP. The owner of the information can then set or change security policies independent of the package through a service in the network cloud. Security policies can include authorizing recipients and limiting recipient access. These changes can be made in real time, even after the information is sent or shared. This allows a user to “pull information back” if it needs to be recalled.
Egress Switch also offers a complete view of recipient activity regarding the shared information, as well as unauthorized access attempts, providing a complete audit trail.
