London, U.K. and Chicago, IL - June 1, 2009 - To meet an increasing demand for protection and control of shared information, Egress Software Technologies announced today the newest version of the innovative secure data exchange solution, Egress Switch. The new software, Switch version 1.3, removes steps from the end user sharing procedure by integrating with common utilities such as email.
New capabilities in the newest Switch software bring the same great security to the end user but in a way that is easier to use. Now included with Egress Switch are:
Switch can automatically protect all attachments on an email while simultaneously setting access permissions only for the email recipients. Email integration, available for Outlook 2003 and 2007, makes protection and control seamless for outgoing email attachments which are often viewed as the most common source of data leaks.
Switch can be invoked simply with a right click on any file or folder in Microsoft XP or Vista. The "Secure with Switch" option that appears in the pop-up menu adds convenience to the process of sharing information through a variety of mechanisms including FTP, CD or DVD, USB storage, or web-based transfers.
Switch includes easy access to the latest news, support, and user tips directly in the product. An integrated reader tuned to the Egress RSS news feed offers the latest information to make end user operation even easier.
"Egress Switch has been well received since its introduction in March, and we believe these additional features will make Switch even more useful, said Bob Egner, U.S. President for Egress Software Technologies. "Our experience with customers tells us that simple security is the most successful security, and Switch version 1.3 has made great progress in simplifying the user experience."
Egress Switch allows an information owner to package sensitive information using strong AES 256-bit encryption and send it to a recipient using any familiar method such as email attachment, CD or DVD, copied to a USB stick or transferred through the web or FTP. The owner can then set or change security policies independent of the package through a service in the cloud. Security policies can include authorizing recipients and limiting recipient use of protected information. Changes to security policies can be made in real time, even after the information is sent or shared. This allows a user to "pull information back" if it needs to be recalled.
Egress Switch also offers a complete view of when the information recipient has opened or used the shared information, as well as unauthorized access attempts, providing an important audit trail. The owner can then easily track activity of their shared information through logs arranged by package or recipient.
Egress Switch version 1.3 is available immediately for the most widely used operating systems, Microsoft Windows Vista and XP. For more information and pricing on Egress Switch or to download the software, please visit www.egress.com.
