Getting started
The need to transfer information of any size by optical or removable media is still a method that is used across a wide range of industries today. Egress Switch is a simple yet secure and effective method for transporting information across a variety of media such as CD/DVD/Blu-Ray or USB Removable Media. To begin creating secure media on optical or removable media, follow the steps below.
This document assumes that you have already downloaded the Egress Switch Client and have already created an account. If you have not already done so, please follow these steps before proceeding,
From the Welcome Screen sign into the Switch Client by clicking the 'Sign In' option.
The Sign In screen will now appear where you will need to enter your Switch ID and Password. When you have done this, click 'Sign In' to continue.
The Welcome Screen will now change where you will be given two options, either review your previously created packages in 'My Packages' or create a new package by clicking on 'Create Package'. Click 'Create Package' to continue.
You can also create a new package even when the Welcome Screen is not displayed by either simply clicking the Switch Tray icon as shown below and selecting 'Create Package'.
Or you can launch the Package Creator by Right-Clicking on any file or folder and select 'Secure With Switch'
The Package Creator wizard will now launch where you can customize the package to suit your needs e.g. add recipients to the package, add a description, place a time restriction or create folders within the package to arrange your data.
Once you have finished configuring your package, click the 'Create Package' button to choose how you would like to transmit your information, i.e. whether that’s on optical or removable media – depending on the type of account you have, your options available may be different from what is displayed below.
After clicking Create Package from the previous screen you will be presented with the Data Exchange Mechanisms screen where you can choose whether to burn your information to CD/DVD/Blu-Ray, send as an Encrypted Email, Upload to the Egress Cloud or copy the files to Removable Media. For this example we are first going to demonstrate how to create an Encrypted CD, we will then describe how to place a Switch package on a Removable Media device. Therefore, from the Data Exchange Mechanisms screen, select the 'Secure CD/DVD' option and then select Next.
Insert a blank or rewriteable CD/DVD/Blu-Ray into your writer when the screen below is shown . If suitable recordable media is found, you will be notified with the message Writeable disc found. You have the option to also Eject the media once the burn has been successful as well as to Verify that the process has completed successfully. When you are ready to continue, select Next.
The encryption and burning process will now commence, depending on the amount and size of the data, will determine how long the process will take to complete. During the process you will be notified of approximately how long until the media will be successfully written.
Once the process has completed the Summary Screen will be displayed showing information on how long the media took to create as well as providing you with options to make modifications to the package or to burn another disc.
That's it! Your optical media has now been successfully created and is ready to be sent to the intended recipient(s) with the peace of mind that the information is fully secured and controllable. Should the data become lost in transit or find it’s way into the hands of a non-intended recipient, you can revoke access to the data in real-time! For more information on how to do this click here.
To create an encrypted Switch Package on Removable Media, simply follow the steps above until you reach the Data Exchange Mechanism screen as shown below.
From the Data Exchange Mechanism screen, select the 'Switch Package' option and then click 'Next'. You will be asked where you would like to create the encrypted package, whether that is on the local machine to be uploaded to a web based email or copied directly to external removable media.
Once you have chosen where you would like to create the encrypted package, click 'Next' to begin the compression and encryption process. Once the file has been successfully created, the Summary Screen will be displayed.
That's it! Your Switch File Package has now been successfully created and is ready to be sent to the intended recipient(s) via Webmail or Removable Media, with the peace of mind that the information is fully secured and controllable. Should the data become lost in transit or find it’s way into the hands of a non-intended recipient, you can revoke access to the data in real-time! For more information on how to do this click here.
